Over $327,000 Raised For Local Charities

Recycle for a Reason - Donation Chart

Recycle for a Reason is Garvey's Office Products toner and electronics recycling program. Each quarter, we collect used toner cartridges, flattened cardboard boxes and used electronics that our customers want to recycle. We pool all of these items together to raise money for local charitable organizations and keep the unwanted items out of landfills. Individually the rebate on recycled cartridges and electronics is not much, but when accumulated over time, it can make a difference!

In order to accomplish this goal of raising money for charity, we have guidelines on what we can and cannot collect. To view the list of items we can pick up, click here. In order to keep this program viable and be able to raise fund for these local charities, we ask that we pick-up recycling when we are dropping off an office supply order to you.

As you may know, we use the program to raise funds for some wonderful local charities. In the past eleven years, Garvey's has been able to raise over $327,000 for local charities and we hope to continue to grow this program.

In 2018, we will be raising money for:

1st Qtr: $7,583.78

Chicago Child Care Society

2nd Qtr: $6,341.18

Little City

3rd Qtr: $7,351.26

Chicago Child Care Society has a 168-year history of providing unconditional support to families in our community and being the family for countless children who met the unfortunate fate of losing theirs. Since our founding in 1849, our programs, services, initiatives and partnerships have taken shape to meet the ever changing needs of vulnerable children. The common thread through every year of our existence is the core belief that children thrive when they are nurtured, supported and given opportunities to learn in a stimulating environment. Chicago Child Care Society mission is to provide innovative, community-based education and social service programs that address the current and emerging needs of vulnerable children and their families. 2nd Quarter of 2018 Check Presentation: Little City

Burt Horowitz (R) presents Littly City with a check on behalf of our Recycle for a Reason Program.

During the 2nd quarter of 2018, we will begin collecting empty toner cartridges and donated electronics for Little City. Little City's mission is to serve children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing the best options and opportunities to live safely, learn continuously, explore creatively and work productively throughout their lifetime. By inspiring, advocating and pursuing success with passion and purpose, lives are changed through hope, happiness, and optimism.

Little City Foundation is helping to create hope, change lives and challenge all limits for children and adults with autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Whether it is our approach to residential care, vocational opportunities, athletics or art, our goal is to provide our residents and clients with opportunities that reflect their heart's desire – a desire to live dignified and productive lives just like you and me. That was the vision initiated more than 50 years ago by a courageous group of parents who started Little City. They wanted to remove the labels society used to devalue their children and champion the fundamental belief that every child and every adult has a right to live with a sense of significance and respect. oday, those founding principles continue to guide the activities of our children and adults of all ages, allowing our residents to live life to their fullest potential. To read more about this local charity, visit Little City.

3rd Quarter of 2018 Check Presentation: A Safe Place

Dan Garvey (R) presents A Safe Place with a check on behalf of our Recycle for a Reason Program.

During the 3rd quarter of 2018, we collected empty toner cartridges and donated electronics for A Safe Place. A Safe Place is the sole provider of services exclusively addressing domestic violence in Lake County, Illinois. Through multi-faceted programs they can assist victims in transforming their lives after domestic violence, prevent future abuse by addressing its root cause through abuser intervention programs, and educate the community about domestic violence and how we can all be involved in its end.

It is their goal that by learning more about domestic violence, its causes, and appropriate responses, A Safe Place can encourage a whole-community response to the domestic violence in our midst, breaking the cycle of domestic violence, thus creating safe and healthy communities.
